The trees in this traditional landscape painting have been twisted by the constant ocean winds. Because they bend and turn, they don't break. I like painting moments of the liminal, when the world has one foot in day and the other in night. The red raking light on the trees , rocks, and twigs comes from a sun not in the painting but whose effect is everywhere, like the power of the divine. This image is loosely based on one of my favorite places in Rhode Island. 

The original mixed media (gouache and colored pencil) painting is 16 x 20" on archival watercolor paper and should be framed behind glass or acrylic.
