Breaking through to higher realms--how do you know when you are really ascending and when you are just kidding yourself? According to both Sufi and Hasidei Ashkenaz mysticism, you see something like sun gleams in green water. The mystic is advised not to be fooled if it looks like the water is rushing past--it is really the mystic who is rising. The gleams are the sparks of the divine. This is referred to as the visio smaragdina in Sufism and a peculiar color green in Hasidei Ashkenaz. That's what I tried to portray in this abstract oil painting.
The original oil painting is 18 x 24"/46 x 61cm on cotton canvas with a 3/4"/2cm profile and is ready to frame.
