I often feel torn between city life and country life; both have plus and minus. But I feel they also represent different types of magic--one that is more identifiably connected to nature and the seasons, and the other that is more strongly rooted in some type of religious practice. In my opinion, we need both. In this painting, even though I've depicted two different lifestyles and practices through the contrast of the buildings and their colors and forms, I feel like they belong together. They give each other power, and folks looking for help might feel more easy with one or the other as the source of that help.
