This small abstract landscape painting is based on the view of some sugar maples near my home last fall. I wanted to make the most of the burning colors of these trees after a strong frost, so I chose scarlet lake and indian yellow as the leaf colors. A bit of French green earth peeks through, and Italian black Roman earth makes the darkness beneath the trees on their little mound. The red is an especially cheering color, I think.
This painting is 6 x 6"/15 x 15cm oil on canvas with a traditional profile. It is ready to frame.
